Request an investigation

Prospective clients may apply for Figure Eleven to consider investigating a defined issue. Describe your connection to the matter, the question you want examined and the public benefit that the work could serve.

We accept applications for consideration, not tips. An application asks us to evaluate a potential engagement; it does not initiate an investigation.

Discretion and the merits

We exercise independent discretion in deciding which matters to take up. Decisions may turn on alignment with our purpose, timing, available evidence, potential conflicts, strategic priorities or whether our approach is suited to the issue.

A decision not to take up a cause is not, by itself, a judgment that it lacks merit. It may reflect considerations unrelated to the strength or importance of the concern.

A focused initial request

Provide a concise account and describe the records that may support it. Separate what you know directly from what you believe requires investigation. Do not send confidential records, identification documents or sensitive third-party information through an initial application.

If further review is appropriate, the scope of work, handling of records and terms of engagement are established separately. Applying does not establish a client relationship, require us to act or change any external deadline.
